The Chicago metro is one of the country’s largest and most diversified economies. World Business Chicago names finance and insurance, transportation and logistics, technology, life sciences, manufacturing and professional services as its core industries, and anchor firms include CME Group, Cboe Global Markets, Northern Trust, Aon, Zurich North America and JPMorgan Chase.

Manufacturing is still the metro’s largest private sector by output, with professional services and finance close behind. The technology ecosystem includes 1871, mHUB, the Discovery Partners Institute and MATTER, and World Business Chicago cites Google, Salesforce and Microsoft as expanding their Chicago presence. The Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park broke ground on the South Side in September 2025.

Industries

Where Salesforce fits in Chicago’s economy.

The metro’s largest private sectors by share of 2024 GDP (excluding real estate and government), and how Salesforce applies to each.

Manufacturing

10.9% of metro GDP

Chicagoland manufacturers, including food manufacturers, usually run complex dealer and distributor channels. Salesforce projects here tend to center on account planning, quoting from ERP data and service after the sale.

Professional, scientific, and technical services

at least 10.0% of metro GDP

Consultancies, agencies and engineering firms need pipeline, resourcing and client reporting in one place, and often move to Salesforce from a lighter CRM as they grow.

Finance and insurance

8.6% of metro GDP

Exchanges, asset managers, insurers and brokers bring strict data and supervision requirements. Financial Services Cloud, compliance-aware marketing and well-designed sharing models are common starting points.

Wholesale trade

at least 7.9% of metro GDP

As a national distribution hub, Chicago has many wholesalers whose sales teams depend on ERP order and inventory data. Integration is usually the difference between a CRM reps use and one they ignore.

Regional target sectors: Finance and Insurance, Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics, Innovation and Technology, Life Sciences, Manufacturing (incl. Food Manufacturing), Professional Services (World Business Chicago)

Common Challenges

Salesforce problems we expect to see here.

Based on the industry mix above and our work in those industries, not on inside knowledge of any Chicago company.

Several systems, one customer

Diversified companies often run separate CRMs or instances by business unit. Consolidating them, or connecting them cleanly, is a frequent reason Chicago-area firms bring in a partner.

Supervision and audit in financial services

Firms in regulated finance need record access, communications and marketing workflows that stand up to compliance review.

Channel sales visibility

Manufacturers and distributors selling through partners often lack a shared view of pipeline and service. Partner portals and clean account hierarchies address that.

FAQ

Salesforce consulting in Chicago: questions.

Do you have an office in Chicago?

No. Our only office is in St. Louis. We serve Chicago-area clients remotely and travel to Chicago for workshops, go-lives and training when that helps the project.

Is working with a St. Louis partner practical for a Chicago company?

Yes. We share the Central time zone, and Chicago is a short flight or about a five-hour drive from our office. Most Salesforce delivery happens over video either way.

Do you work with Chicago financial services firms?

Yes. Our published financial services work includes a broker-dealer’s custom capital-raising system and compliant marketing automation for a registered investment advisor, and we implement Financial Services Cloud.

Can you consolidate multiple Salesforce orgs or CRMs?

Yes. Consolidation is a migration and integration project. For example, a cybersecurity company moved an old CRM and a homegrown ticketing system onto Sales and Service Cloud in 6–8 weeks.
